NHL 18

Boy have the mighty fallen. This was once the staple sports franchise. Every year, it was getting better and the games were amazing and honestly some of the best games ever made. Time travel 10 years later and now we’re left with this. This?

I love hockey, its the only sport that I watch and I am obsessed with it. I can talk about hockey as much as I can about video games. So the 2 mixed together should be my favorite thing in the world but in reality, it’s just my yearly disappointment.

Now that I am done ranting about games, let me dive in and talk about whats wrong with this. First off, hockey is a fast sport. Probably the fastest moving sport in the world because (besides motorsports) you’re on the ice and on skates. The fastest skater in the world is faster than the fastest runner. You just move faster so naturally, the fast, paced game of hockey is also going to be fast paced in video game form as well right? Nope.

It’s not so bad offline because you can tinker with the settings and make it enjoyable to play, the problem is. Once you go online, it’s like the game is in slow motion. Ultimately I don’t see a huge difference between this gameplay and NHL 17. If you have NHL 17, I’d recommend sticking with that.

Now I do want to talk about the new game mode NHL 3’s which is an arcade style sim that is 3 vs 3. It’s dumb but I found it to be a lot of fun because at the end of the day, its a faster pace even online. It makes me happy there is a fun game mode to play online but it makes me sad because they’re capable of making the game faster paced online but they don’t for some reason.

At the end of the day, I will not be buying this game but if you’re the type of person who only buys the yearly NHL game. It’s not terrible, it’s just not what I’m looking for in a hockey video game.
